Every wave has a beginning. Ours started not in a boardroom, but barefoot and sunburnt, somewhere between a dream and a sunrise surf.

The Salty was born from a simple but powerful idea… that travel should feel less like escape and more like coming home to yourself. Not the home with walls and routines but the one made of salt air, shared stories and the freedom to move, breathe and just be.

From Travelers to Founders

We were three travelers… friends, seekers! Spending our twenties chasing not just waves, but experiences that made us feel alive. From Portugal’s golden sunsets to Sri Lanka’s warm shores, it was never about being the best surfers. We’re just like you, here to learn, to progress and to find balance in the simple rhythm of living. What stayed with us wasn’t just the surf or the yoga, but the moments in between… laughing over beers with strangers who felt like old friends, sunset paddles and that feeling of being both grounded and free.

We kept asking… what if this was life? What if we built a space where people could land and reconnect! Not just to nature but to themselves and each other?

And so, The Salty was dreamed up on hikes and long journeys, sketched on napkins and notebooks and shaped through the experiences we shared together. In 2016, it finally came to life on the Portuguese coast.

Why “The Salty”?

Salty isn’t just about the sea on your skin or the wind in your hair. It’s about living fully… messy, adventurous, real! It’s the grit that reminds you life isn’t always polished, but it’s always worth it.

At The Salty, we celebrate that spirit. The wanderers, the wave chasers, the seekers of sun, connection and freedom. Those who embrace life a little wild, a little untamed and entirely alive… just like our guests.

What We Believe

We’re not a yoga retreat. We’re not a surf camp. We’re both and neither. We’re a wellbeing social retreat… a place where people from all walks of life can slow down, move their bodies, meet others, eat well, laugh loudly and maybe even shift something inside.

Our mission is simple… Balance without pressure. Connection without expectation. Movement with meaning.

Growing, But Staying Grounded

From our first spot along the Portuguese coast, we’ve grown to multiple locations across Portugal, then onward to Sri Lanka and beyond. Yet the heart of The Salty remains the same… no rigid schedules, no forced spirituality, just salty air, shared moments and a rhythm you settle into naturally.

Every location is chosen to make the most of its spirit, not its square footage. Every team member is here because they understand that mix of hospitality, heart and genuine human connection.
